When Pelangi organized the last seminar on the role of forestry in the clean development mechanism (CDM), a Jakarta Post journalist interviewed me and my Pelangi colleagues about the presentations and the discussions that followed. The seminar was meant to be informative, rather than political, organized to fill the information gap in Indonesia about the CDM, and climate change in general. It was also a seminar to launch Pelangi's booklet "Mencari Pohon Uang: CDM Kehutanan di Indonesia" (Looking for the Money Tree: CDM Forestry in Indonesia). The booklet was to provide the public with the necessary information on the role of forestry in the CDM.
Pelangi is of the position that preventing climate change should start from actions that permanently reduce emissions from the source. While forestry has a role, it is limited, and we need to treat this limitation accordingly.
